Thalea, designing the future of ICU

10/20/2014

THALEA aims to find new ways to enhance and strengthen telemedicine in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

The main purpose of THALEA is to enable regional or national ICU telemedicine centres to improve their care of critically ill patients. We want to achieve this by developing a new innovative ICU telemedicine system that will be able to gather information from different types of data systems, analyse and condense the amassed data from all monitored patients into relevant information and to present this information to monitoring physicians at regional telemedicine centres. With help of the THALEA system, it will become possible to give expert intensive care to patients regionally, thus making it possible to give expert intensive care to patients in other hospitals.

The THALEA project is implemented by PreCommercial Procurement (PCP). This innovative process presents an opportunity for suppliers to develop new solutions and to introduce new technologies and products in direct cooperation with the target industry. The PCP process is flexible and allows an early dialogue between potential suppliers and the hospitals in order to optimize the ICU telemedicine system. The PCP process can be very beneficial in a situation where there is no existing system yet in the market. The development work will partly be financed by THALEA project funding, within the 7th framework programme of the European Union.
