The Clean Soil test project looks for contaminated soil restoration methods for export

5/10/2016
The Clean Soil funding for test projects in the field of restoration of contaminated land areas seeks to discover innovative, export-oriented restoration methods and comprehensive solutions to be developed in areas undergoing restoration.

The project boosts the development of technologies and comprehensive solutions for the restoration of contaminated land areas. The new Clean Soil solutions aim to increase international business and competitive advantage, and to support the implementation of sustainable risk management solutions.

This project is part of the Government's key project on Bioeconomy and clean solutions. It is realised by Tekes and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre) of Pirkanmaa.

Tekes provides risk funding for new solutions. The funded projects focus on researching and creating solutions with international market potential at their early stage of development. They will eventually be demonstrated in real test sites. A total of EUR 2 million has already been earmarked for funding through Tekes.

The projects are funded by the Pirkanmaa ELY Centre. The test sites of the programme will be selected among the sites included in a national research and restoration sites. These test sites will be funded through the public waste management system and must fulfil the requirements set by the system. The budgeted total funding is EUR 2 million.

Tekes focuses on industry-driven joint projects

When Tekes is granting funding, it puts an emphasis on industry-driven joint projects aiming at concrete demonstration sites. Consequently, project plans should include a road map towards test site demonstrations. The Clean Soil projects are typically realised as joint projects between companies.

The idea is that the business networks that will emerge will be complemented over time, particularly by projects conducted by SMEs.

The projects implemented with Tekes' Clean Soil funding must be concluded by 31 August 2018.

Joint projects, pilots and demonstrations can also be funded with other Tekes funding that is not subject to deadlines. Read more about Tekes funding.
