Aalto University tag team won the TekesHack demo pitching

TekesHack Design Contest gathered eight teams to demonstrate efficient ways to match companies, research teams and investors. The challenge was to combine open data, machine learning and artificial intelligence in order to create a whole new service solution.

“We have seen interesting innovation matchmaking solutions developed using artificial intelligence”, says Senior Adviser and hackathon coach Jussi Kajala from Tekes.

Their excellent demo deserved the first prize of 10.000 euros. The winning team demonstrated a convincing solution matching the challenge. The added-value for end-users was taken into account.

The high-level jury chose two runner-ups with 5.000 euros each. The runner-ups were Courage Ventures Oy & Fast Monkey Oy (Will Cardwell, Lauri Raivio and Lucas Thome) and Difogic (Vladislav Bondarenko and Boris Nechaev).

Next phase of the Design Contest is to pass competitors’ work to an independent jury for an evaluation. The winner or winners of the final evaluation will make a contract with Tekes. The value of the deal varies between 100.000 and 200.000 euros.

”The contest has been a learning experience. This is a light procedure to get fine ideas for development”, says Procurement Manager Eriika Autio from Tekes. ”This is also the first time when hackathon is combined with a public procurement  in Finland.”
