Funding for Indo-Finnish collaboration in clinical diagnostics

Tekes and the Academy of Finland have started collaboration with the Indian Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in the field of clinical diagnostics. DBT is one of the leading research organisations for biotechnology in India, and an important funding source for biotechnology.

Research funding

The aim is to launch ambitious joint projects of a high international standard between Finnish and Indian research groups in clinical diagnostics. Potential projects will be funded by Tekes (applied research) or the Academy of Finland (basic research) in Finland, and by DBT in India. The joint projects must meet the requirements of the actual funding organisations.

In the Finnish part of the project, the general funding terms of Tekes or the Academy of Finland will be applied.

Tekes will favour projects with strong company participation indicating credible application and exploitation potential. Company funding is mainly expected to cover in minimum 15 % of the project costs (full cost model).

The detailed call for applications (CFA) will be published at the web pages of the funding organisations in the beginning of December, 2008. The applications shall be submitted to the appropriate funding organisation during January 2009. The exact dates and guidelines for applicants will be available in the final CFA in December. The applicants will be notified about the funding decision in fall 2009 at the latest.

Funding for enterprises

Tekes and DBT have decided to jointly fund collaboration between Finnish and Indian companies in the field of clinical diagnostics. The joint projects must meet the requirements of each funding organisation. In the Finnish part of the project, the general funding terms of Tekes will be applied.

Tekes, the Academy of Finland, and DBT encourage research groups and companies to start preparing joint projects.

DBT is willing to help Finnish organisations find Indian partners.
