Focus 2013: Creative and sustainable solutions from Finland

Focus on the Economy and Technology, an annual publication showcasing Finland and targeted at key international markets, has just been published for the eleventh time. This year’s issue highlights Finland’s strengths in start-up entrepreneurship, work-life balance and sustainable technology.

“The magazine enables us to communicate the strengths of Finnish society: know-how, functionality and cooperative ability,” says editor-in-chief Nicola Lindertz from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. “We explain how to achieve a balanced life, how nature forms a key resource for the Finnish economy and how ideas or businesses can evolve through bold thinking. Focus is an important tool in Finland’s public diplomacy, reaching out to business partners, investors and decision-makers.”

In its selection of subject matter and layout, Focus introduces a broad perspective on Finnish society and business life. The ambitious magazine succeeds in differentiating itself from traditional government publications.

Focus is a joint publication of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Tekes, Sitra, Invest in Finland and Finnfacts. The magazine is distributed primarily by Finnish embassies; it is also distributed at international trade events and seminars showcasing Finnish know-how.

Production, design and project management is handled by Sanoma Magazines Custom Media.

Focus is also released as a tablet application. The application and the digital version of the magazine are available at . Free copies of the paper magazine can be ordered at the same address. In March, Focus will be available in Spanish, German and Russian; in the spring the Chinese version will be published.
