ERA-Net Smart Grids
Tekes participates in the joint European call for project proposals under the Smart Grids theme. The call opened on 30 January 2015 and the first phase will close on 8 April 2015, by which time interested companies should draw up an initial project plan with suitable partners.
Organised jointly by more than 20 European countries, ERA-Net Smart Grids Plus calls for bilateral or multilateral projects under the Smart Grids theme. Applicants are expected to propose projects on the broadest and most versatile basis possible in the fields of technology, business models, markets and/or users. The purpose is to utilise existing demo environments, for example, in order to bring the solutions under development closer to commercial products. The theme will be further specified by the beginning of the application period.
The project must involve participants from at least two countries. We would also like to point out that Tekes can only provide funding for companies (research institutes can be included as subcontractors to companies). Other countries may have the opportunity to support their national companies and/or research institutions. In Finland, the level of funding is determined under Tekes's normal funding criteria. Depending on the size of the company and the nature of the project, Tekes' funding share is typically 50–65 per cent of eligible costs.
The application process is a two-phase procedure. At the first stage, the applicants are asked to submit a short project description via the Tekes online application system, and the final project plan by 2 June 2015.
Finnish applicants should also submit the Tekes application form by 2 June.
Tekes aims to make the funding decisions towards the end of 2015, and it is intended that the projects will begin in February–April 2016. Projects should last between 24 and 38 months.
