Boat Programme 2007–2011
Better boats and services
Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation Boat Programme provides incentives for companies to develop their business and apply the best available expertise. The result of the programme is better boats and services for the consumer. These are provided by profitable and competitive Finnish businesses.
The boat industry has grown to become a major Finnish SME sector. As much as 75% of all Finnish boat production goes to exports. Challenges facing the industry are rapid changes in production technologies and the international market as well as new cheap labour countries in surrounding regions and the Far East. Changes in consumer behaviour should also be taken into consideration in the designing of better products and providing of services.
A key objective of the Boat programme is to fully advantage the combined expertise of industry businesses, subcontractors, research facilities and institutes of higher education. The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland serves as programme co-ordinator in close co-operation with Finnish Marine Industries Federation Finnboat.
